This policy covers the Moon Lunation app for iPhone and iPad, published by TraLand.com (“we”, “us”). Questions: support@traland.com.
Nothing. There is no account or sign-in, no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising and no
attribution SDK of any kind. The app ships a PrivacyInfo.xcprivacy manifest declaring
NSPrivacyTracking = false with every collected-data category empty, and our App Store
privacy answers are Data Not Collected across the board.
There is no networking in the app at all. No URLSession, no network
entitlement, no remote configuration, no update check. All the astronomy is computed on your device,
including the first time you open it.
So this is not a policy of restraint about data we could collect. There is no path by which anything could leave your device.
The app never asks for location and has no location features. It will not prompt you for permission, because it has nothing to do with the answer.
The 2009 version of this app had a fixed city list. That has been removed entirely. All times shown are geocentric — computed for the centre of the Earth rather than for wherever you are.
No user data. No preferences, no history, no saved dates.
The old app stored data in a file called moondb.sqlite, and on a device that has carried
the app forward for years that file may still exist.
Moon Lunation never opens it. It does not read it, migrate it, or report anything about it. This is a deliberate written requirement of the rebuild, not an oversight: the app has no reason to look inside a file from the old version, so it does not.
It is also left exactly as found, rather than cleaned up — a decision that was taken and recorded, not arrived at by nobody deciding. What settled it is worth knowing, because it means the file is not what it looks like: there is nothing of yours in it. The 2009 app shipped a 153 KB reference database inside itself and copied it into place on first launch, and its code contained no statement capable of writing to it. All 1,624 rows are data that shipped with the app in 2009 — 149 cities, 1,453 phase entries and 22 supporting rows. Deleting it would protect no personal data, and would add the only file-modifying code path to an app that otherwise writes nothing.
The Moon surface is the public-domain CGI Moon Kit from NASA's Scientific Visualization Studio, reprojected offline and bundled with the app. It is shipped inside the app, not downloaded, so displaying it involves no request and tells nobody anything about you.
The one place any personal data is involved is the email form on the Moon Lunation page of this website, which is separate from the app. If you enter an email address there, we store it and use it to email you once, when the app is released. We do not pass it on. Ask us at support@traland.com and we will delete it.
No data is shared with anyone, because the app collects none.
Moon Lunation contains no advertising, no purchases, no accounts and no user-generated content, and it collects nothing from anyone, of any age.
The app has not been released yet, so expect this page to be revisited before launch. If its data handling ever changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top is updated.
