Privacy Policy

This policy explains what data the Karaoke app (“Karaoke”, “the app”) accesses, processes and stores, and what it does not. Karaoke is published by TraLand.com (“we”, “us”). Questions? Contact [email protected].

What the app does

Karaoke is a local media player for karaoke files you already own. It plays video and audio from your Mac, overlays lyrics, and helps you organise and time a karaoke library. It runs in the macOS App Sandbox and can only reach files you explicitly grant it access to through the file importer or drag-and-drop. It does not scan your filesystem on its own.

Data we do not collect

Karaoke does not:

• collect or transmit personal information;
• send analytics, telemetry or crash reports to any server;
• use advertising identifiers;
• require an account or login;
• contain third-party analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs.

Playing your songs and overlaying lyrics needs no network connection at all.

Data stored locally on your Mac

To work the way you would expect between launches, Karaoke stores the following in its own sandboxed container, on your Mac only:

• Song library metadata — titles, artists, file paths, lyric offsets and playback history;
• Playlists — playlist names and song references;
• Security-scoped bookmarks — macOS bookmarks that let the app re-open the files you granted access to, across launches;
• Timing sync points — the lyric timing corrections you enter, saved per song;
• Queue state — the current playback queue.

None of this is uploaded anywhere, and we never receive it. Deleting the app removes all of it.

Generating lyrics

When a song has no lyric file, Karaoke can transcribe draft lyrics for you. You choose the engine, per song:

• Apple Speech (on-device). Uses Apple’s on-device Speech Recognition framework. Audio is processed locally on your Mac and is not sent to us or to any third party by Karaoke. Apple’s own privacy policy governs how Apple’s Speech framework handles audio.
• OpenAI Whisper (cloud, optional). If you choose this option, you supply your own OpenAI API key and the audio of the song you are transcribing is sent to OpenAI’s transcription API to produce the lyrics. That transfer is between you and OpenAI and is governed by OpenAI’s privacy policy. Your API key is stored only on your Mac and is never sent to us. We do not receive the audio, the transcript or the key. Karaoke never uses this engine unless you explicitly select it.

Whichever engine you use, generated lyrics are a draft you review and edit before saving.

Microphone and speech recognition

Generating lyrics may require permission to read audio and to use speech recognition. macOS will ask you the first time. You can decline, and simply import or paste lyrics instead.

Purchases

Karaoke is sold through the Mac App Store. Payment is handled entirely by Apple; we never see your payment details. Apple provides developers with anonymised, aggregated sales reports that identify no individual customer.

Children’s privacy

Karaoke does not knowingly collect any data from users of any age. No personal information is collected by the application.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted here with an updated date, and material changes will be reflected in a future app update.
